Mortal Shell II proxima: Lightning Build Setup Guide

Mortal Shell II proxima is best approached as an aggressive control shell rather than a simple melee damage dealer. Proxima combines the Biosampler ability with Grafted Armor, allowing her to build lightning pressure while mitigating incoming attacks. The result is a setup that can stagger groups, slow dangerous targets, and maintain Resolve during extended fights.

The lightning version of Proxima is especially effective in narrow rooms and crowded encounters. Biosampler pulls Proxima or an enemy into striking range, applies Lightning stacks, and creates opportunities for follow-up attacks. When Grafted Armor mitigates damage, Shellshock can return Resolve and add more Lightning stacks to the attacker.

The build is most consistent when its offensive and defensive systems reinforce one another. A successful mitigation event does more than reduce damage: it can restore Resolve and apply Lightning stacks. That resource return lets Proxima continue using Biosampler instead of retreating after every exchange.

Proxima’s skill tree supports several directions, but the lightning setup gains the most from skills that improve Biosampler frequency, Lightning application, and Grafted Armor reliability. The exact final allocation can vary depending on whether you are clearing normal areas or fighting a long boss encounter.

For general exploration and group fights, prioritize the following path:

For most area clearing, Seizure is a comfortable choice because Stasis and stagger effects help control groups. The Biosampler impact becomes more useful when several enemies are close together, and the added splash damage reduces the need to isolate targets.

For bosses, Biohunter is often the better alternative. Move one point from Seizure into Biohunter when the target will survive long enough for repeated samples to accumulate. This trades some immediate control for stronger sustained damage.

The highest priority is not simply reaching the final tier. It is creating a reliable cycle in which Proxima can enter range, trigger her shell defenses, recover Resolve, and immediately use Biosampler again. Once that cycle works, later points can be tailored to the encounter.

The recommended equipment package has a clear purpose: Axatana supplies rapid melee pressure, Duality Stone supports its fast attack pattern, Voltaic Crown keeps Lightning effects active, and Acolyte Stone provides powerful critical bursts.

The Axatana is located in the southeast portion of the map at the Forgotten Tower. The Voltaic Crown can be obtained through progression involving the Stone Bleed Gate Beacon or the northern gate route. Because the exact route may depend on progression order, check both objectives while exploring the relevant area.

Acolyte Stone is the main burst tool. At level three, it provides a large critical damage increase alongside additional critical chance, making it especially effective after an enemy has been shocked or staggered. Save it for an opening rather than activating it during a defensive retreat.

Recommended combat rotation:

1. Approach with Biosampler and pull the target into range.
2. Follow with the ability’s strike to apply Lightning and Stasis pressure.
3. Attack with Axatana while the target is slowed, shocked, or staggered.
4. Allow Grafted Armor to mitigate selected attacks instead of panic-dodging every hit.
5. Use the Resolve gained through Shellshock to repeat Biosampler.
6. Activate Acolyte Stone during a clear critical window.

The build does not require constant ability use without consideration. Biosampler is powerful, but careless activation can pull Proxima into a bad position. Against several enemies, aim toward the target that places you closest to the center of the group only when Grafted Armor or a dodge route is available.

The Voltaic Crown also changes how you evaluate ordinary attacks. You are not only looking for raw weapon damage; you are trying to reach shock thresholds quickly. Once shock staggers begin, Axatana can maintain pressure while the enemy struggles to respond.

Boss encounters require a slightly more patient version of the lightning setup. The core rotation remains the same, but you should avoid spending every defensive option at once. Use Biosampler to create an opening, attack briefly, then disengage before the boss’s retaliation pattern becomes difficult to read.

Biohunter becomes increasingly attractive in extended fights because repeated Biosampler samples provide a lasting damage increase against the affected enemy. This is less noticeable against enemies that die quickly, but it can become meaningful during a long boss phase.

The most important defensive habit is learning which attacks can be accepted through Grafted Armor. Proxima’s mitigation is not an invitation to stand in every hit. It is a resource engine that rewards controlled aggression. Dodge attacks that would place you behind the boss, near hazards, or inside a second enemy’s range.

For normal areas, Discharge adds useful room control after Biosampler connects. A single point can be enough if you mainly want the Lightning storm trigger. Additional investment should be compared against the value of Biohunter, Seizure, or defensive upgrades for your current progression.
